THE ASIA PACIFIC MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS (APMOPS) 2024

 

I. General Information 

KinderWorld International Group and Hwa Chong Institution will once again co-host the Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS) 2024 in Vietnam this year. Ever since APMOPS was introduced in Vietnam in 2009, many students have achieved various awards as shown below:

2023: – 2 students ranked 2nd and 40th place in the Invitation Round
2020 – 2022: APMOPS was not organized in Vietnam due to COVID-19
2019: – 5 students achieved between 3rd and 40th place in the Invitation Round
2018: – 6 students achieved between 4th and 40th place in the Invitation Round
2017: – 4 students achieved between 4th to 40th place in the Invitation Round
2016: – 5 Gold medals were awarded to students ranked 1st, 3rd, 4th, 8th and 9th in the Invitation Round
2015: – 6 students achieved between 2nd and 40th place in the Invitation Round
2014: – 3 students achieved between 8th to 40th place in the Invitation round
2013: – 2 students were ranked in the Top 10 of the competition
– 5 Gold medals were awarded to students ranked 4th, 9th, 28th, 29th and 30th in the Invitation Round
2012: – 3 students ranked 12th, 18th and 22nd received the Gold medals in the Invitation Round
2011: – 13 Platinum Certificates
– 16 Gold Certificates
– 31 Silver Certificates
– 57 Bronze Certificates
2010: – 2 students were ranked 11th and 12th places in the Final Round

Hwa Chong Institution is a premier independent school with a rich history of 90 years. The school has the highest Oxford University and Cambridge University admission rate in Singapore and has the most number of awardees of the President’s Scholarship, Singapore.

APMOPS is a prestigious event whereby students from countries in the Asia-Pacific region including Australia, China, India, Singapore, New Zealand and Vietnam have the opportunity to interact and compete with top students in Mathematics.

II. Details information 

There are two rounds in the APMOPS 2024 Competition:

  • First Round in Vietnam will be held online at home, supervised via APMOPS & HCIC App on Saturday, 20 April 2024.
  • Invitation Round in Singapore: Hwa Chong Institution will decide depending on the Covid-19 pandemic situation. Tentative date for Invitation Round is on Saturday, 25 May 2024.

If the Invitation Round is held in Singapore, the candidates with the best results in First Round of the Asia-Pacific region will be invited by Hwa Chong Institution to participate in the Invitation Round and Award Ceremony at Hwa Chong Institution, Singapore.

If the Invitation Round is not held in Singapore, the candidates will receive a soft copy of the APMOPS First Round Certificate ONLY issued by Hwa Chong Institution.

Please be advised that students’ raw scores will not be publicized; only final results are released to parents and students (if any).

A.  First Round

1. Date of Competition: Saturday, 20 April 2024

2. Duration: 9.00 – 11.00 am (2 hours).

3. Format: Online at home via Competition Website of Hwa Chong Institution and APMOPS & HCIC App. Username and Password will only be given after payment of Registration Fee.

4. Eligibility:

  • Year 6 students of School Year 2023-2024
  • Students have not participated in APMOPS before

7.  Instructions for Participants

a. Devices & Connections:

  • All participants must have their own tablets/ laptops/ desktops with strong internet connection with suitable browser to access the competition website. Participant must have additional device such as mobile phone or tablet with camera, suitable remaining storage space (at least 500Mb) and with internet connection to log in the APMOPS & HCIC App. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the hardware and software requirements as stated in the Student’s User Guide.
  • APMOPS & HCIC App must be used concurrently with the APMOPS Competition website. It is the responsibility of the participant to ensure that the App is used when they are doing the Competition at home and that the video is captured properly according to the specifications stated in the APMOPS & HCIC App Handbook.

b. Login Details: Usename and Password will be provided by the Organizer.

c. Competition Time:

  • The competition will start at 9.00 am sharp and end at 11.00 am. All participants must be ready by 8:50 am.
  • At 8:50 am, participants are required to log in to the APMOPS Competition website and the APMOPS & HCIC App. All participants will be placed in a waiting room. At 9:00 am, the portal will open for the students to start the competition.
  • There will be a timer on the screen and participants will be able to see the time remaining for the competition.

d. Participants must read the instructions carefully on the screen before you start the competition.

e. The use of calculators, mathematical sets or mathematical tables, written notes is strictly NOT allowed during the competition.

f. Honesty is to be maintained throughout the competition. No form of communication between candidates and/ or outsiders is allowed after the Competition starts and throughout the Competition time. Zero mark shall be awarded to students who have acted dishonestly, cheated, attempted to cheat or helped others in the competition. After the competition, please log out of the APMOPS competition website.

g. The results will be void for participants who failed to meet any of the above instructions or any other rules of the Competition.

h. There will be no make-up competition for participants who have any technical issues or are unable to complete the online competition from home for any reasons.

i. Please regularly visit KinderWorld website https://kinderworld.net/apmops/ to get updated information about the APMOPS Competition.

8.  Registration

8.1 Registration Fee:VND 1,000,000 / student and is non-refundable.

8.2  Registration Form: 

Download the Registration Form from the website https://kinderworld.net/apmops/ and fill in the information. Parents and students must sign the Registration Form, attach a photo, and submit to the Organizing Committee by 29 February 2024.

8.3  How to Register:

a. North: Choose one of the options below:

  • Register at School: Registration will be held on Saturday, 24 February 2024 from 9.30am to 11.30am at Singapore International School @ Van Phuc, 2D Van Phuc Diplomatic Compound 46 Van Bao Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi.
  • Registration by post and bank transfer: Candidates registering for the competition send the registration form (including one 3 x 4 photo) and the registration fee by 29 February 2024 with below details:

Note:

  • After submitting the Registration Form and making payment, please send an email to the Organizing Committee about the student registration information so that we can check and issue a red invoice.
  • Please read all instructions and study all guidelines on the Competition carefully before registering as the Registration Fee is non-refundable.
B.  Invitation Round

1. Date of Competition: Saturday, 25 May 2024 (Hwa Chong Institution will decide depending on the Covid-19 situation).

2. Venue: Hwa Chong Institution, Singapore

3. Eligibility:

Top qualifying participants from the First Round will be invited by Hwa Chong Institution for the Invitation Round in Singapore. Each qualifying participant will require a current & valid passport with no less than 6 months validity and a valid visa to Singapore (if required).

4. Sponsorship: 

KinderWorld International Group will sponsor the 2 Top qualifying participants of Vietnam and invited by Hwa Chong Institution with return air fares: Hanoi – Singapore – Hanoi.

All expenses in Singapore including accommodation, food and local tours will be sponsored by Hwa Chong Institution.

All other expenses such as passport, visa, travel insurance and personal allowance are not included.

5. Prizes for the Invitation Round:

A total of 40 Individual Prizes will be awarded by Hwa Chong Institution to the top 40 participants in the Asia Pacific region in the Invitation Round. Prizes are as follows:

  • 1st Prize : S$1000 and 1 medal
  • 2nd Prize : S$800 and 1 medal
  • 3rd Prize : S$500 and 1 medal
  • 4th – 5th Prize : S$300 and 1 medal
  • 6th – 10th Prize : S$100 and 1 medal
  • 11th – 40th Prize : 1 medal per award

6. Announcement of Winners:

The winners of the Invitation Round will be announced on Saturday, 25 May 2024 at the Prize Presentation Ceremony in Singapore.
