To begin the Ceremony, Dr. Noel Geoghegan - Project Manager of APMOPS 2010 presented a solemn speech concluding processes of APMOPS 2010 First Round and highlighted the achievement of Vietnamese participants. APMOPS 2010 First Round interested hundreds of students nationwide. 485 students from 32 schools in Hanoi, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong participated in the competition this year. Dr. Geoghegan was proud to announce that this was the first year Vietnam won Platinum Certificates. Among these, 8 won Platinum certificates and 2 won Gold certificates.
These students were also invited to the Invitation Round in Singapore by Hwa Chong Institution (HCI). At the ceremony, Mr. Adrian Tan from Singapore Embassy presented the First Round Certificate to the Top 10 participants. Mr. Ricky Tan – Chairman of KinderWorld Group awarded 10 outstanding participants with Singapore Airlines return tickets for travelling to Singapore to compete in the Invitation Round. This sponsorship of KinderWorld was a great encouragement to the young mathematicians. They were given the opportunity to participate in a regional and prestige competition for the first time. The Award Ceremony ended up with a warm buffet when a lot of good wishes were given to the invitees and families. KinderWorld, different departments, teachers and parents also shared their pride of the Vietnamese representatives to the Invitation Round in Singapore. After the Ceremony, the Vietnam APMOPS team departed from SIS Ciputra to Noi Bai Airport to go to Singapore for the big competition. Ten young mathematicians and families all showed their strong belief and excitement towards the trip. All families went to the airport with the team and said good bye to them with big hope and emotional hugs.
